The comeback : Sforzando!
Sforzando! started in early 2006 when all of the band members met at the same college. Adam, Yap, Aman, Naqi and Boy started jamming songs from Mineral, Nirvana and some of local bands and then its evolved into song writing sessions as Sforzando!. The band started playing gigs all across the regions in various sets and extra additional of visual with the help of Jibin controlling lightings and fog machine. Their influences like Mineral , The Gloria Record , Texas Is The Reason , Buddhistson , Sunny Day Real Estate , Sigur Ros and I/am/Rain just to name a few really inspired them in developing big , sweeping , effects-laden sound and droning riffs embedded with moaning vocals through most of their songs. With the help of Syam , Noa , Jibin and Alep as their regular session’s, they still holding on as Sforzando! up until now for the passion of the music and friends.

We had the chance to interview the band’s frontman, Naqi exclusively for Pizzza Magazine.
Pizzza: State your name, your position in the band, for our record. heh
Naqi: Hello, my name is Muhammad Naqi Abu Bakar. I’m the guitarist and vocalist in the band.
Pizzza: As you’re not doing any gigs now, are you onto anything now?
Naqi: For the time being I’ve been busy with my studies, my another band Homage To A Shame, and currently writing new songs for sforzando! for the upcoming EP. We’re planning a split EP with my buddies band from Jitra, Until The Broken Line. InsyaAllah this year if all goes well the EP will be out.
Pizzza: I can fully understand bands doing one or the other. Playing live is a different process to recording.
Playing live is about learning what’s gone before and recording is about avoiding what’s gone before and trying to make something better.
What decides that the time is right to go into the studio to record an album? Or is is an ongoing process?
Naqi: Well, for me, the band decide themselves weather they want to straight to the studio for an album recording or just wait until the time is right. For me personally, for my band, I want to wait until I clearly confident that our music is suit to be called “album-songs”. Do you know what I mean? I mean I really care about the quality because I want my listeners to feel satisfied with what my band produces, and of course I want my album to be at least close enough to be call ‘perfect’ (in my point of view) means no flaws and sort of.
Pizzza: What comes first the lyrics or the music?
Naqi: The music of course.
Pizzza: You’ve been in the scene quite a while now,and its clear that creating and playing music is important to you. So with this new year what do you hope for?
Naqi: I really, really hope that our so-called-indie-scene produces more pure and honest music, what I mean is you play music for the passion and interest in music, not just for seeking fame and all that. Of course, fame is just a bonus, the satisfying of creating your own music is beyond anything else. Be honest to music, and music will be honest to you.
Pizzza: I’ve been informed that Sforzando was disbanded before. Can you tell us more about it? perhaps your fans would want to know before they see you on stage this coming 26th February.
Naqi: Yes we have some argument among ourselves about commitments. We have a lot of commitments other than the band, so when things get out of control, we decided to disband to find our own way. But as the time goes by, we miss our memories, our music, and our friendship, time heals, and so we decided to back together and forget all of the past issues. sforzando! is what keep us together.
Pizzza: Any particular reason?
Naqi: Yes but I think I shouldn’t talk about it
Pizzza: I know you guys are not active playing shows now – I won’t ask what’s your favourite ever gig but what was
the gig you’d wished that was your band up on the stage – and why?
Naqi: Hmm for now maybe Rock The World? Because when I was a kid I always want to play a show with many audience so my music will be well spread. And I would love to play in the Weekend Show or Xgig. Maybe if God’s will someday we will be able to play in the show.
Pizzza: Is there any person or band you would like to work with or share a stage with?
Naqi: Akta Angkasa, Killeur Calculateur, I/am/Rain, Seven Collar T-Shirt, and Furniture.
Videos
Pizzza: You worked with many musicians before, who is the most respectable musician you ever known?
Naqi: Zul of Akta Angkasa. For me, he is one genius guy in Malaysia who has a credibility, charisma, attraction, hardworking, passion, and most of his shows will leave a memories in my head. In person Zul is one humble and adorable (haha) musician I’ve ever known.
Pizzza: What do you think on 2012?
Naqi: You mean, what? The end of the world? Hehe. Bullshit.
Pizzza: Any future plans for yourself and especially Sforzando!?
Naqi: An album is a huge plan for me, maybe this year we will release the split EP. InsyaAllah. And I want to focus more to my another band, Homage To A Shame.
Pizzza: 3 local bands you respect the most?
Naqi: Seven Collar T-Shirt, Akta Angkasa, Killeur Calculateur.
