Name The Band: An Honest Mistake

Why An Honest Mistake:
Darren: I was watching the series, ‘Malcolm In The Middle’ one day and the three brothers were fighting. All of a sudden the youngest one shouted, ‘IT WAS AN HONEST MISTAKE!’ and the he ran away crying. I thought that it was a cool phrase and decided that it should be a band name. Besides that, we can all relate to the phrase. Everyone would have at least made one mistake in their life, if they didn’t mean it, I guess we can call it an ‘honest’ mistake!

Previously Rejected Names:
Darren: None. An Honest Mistake was the first band name and it caught on.

What’s going on with An Honest Mistake?
Darren: We’re currently busy writing a follow-up record for our self-titled album. This time it’s going to have at least 10 tracks. Most of our time has been spent in the studio writing and I’ve been spending a lot of time with Sheryl writing lyrics as well as practicing vocal melodies. We are most probably going to Indonesia to track the album. Stay for a week, track, shop a little maybe.

Apart from that, we’ve just recently parted ways with our long-serving drummer (the first member that I recruited), Kevin Theng. He has chosen to focus on teaching and writing his own music. We wish him all the best! However, when good things go, better things always come. A few weeks after the departure, Jone Yeoh joined us as our new drummer. Jone is amazing and we’ve been rehearsing with him a lot. He’s a long time friend and has sessioned for many artistes, a protégé of Lewis Pragasam. Our first performance together will be at the Hard Rock Café Battle Of The Bands on 20th February 2011. I’m sure it’ll be fun.

We’ve just released our music video for the single ‘I Have A Hole In My Skinnies And That’s How We Roll’ and will be releasing another one really soon. It was recorded at our album launch. Pretty fun video to watch. We are planning to shoot a short film/music video in the middle of this year. We’re trying to branch out and do more than just music itself. I love acting and I love movies so this could be a benchmark for us.

Ringtones are already available on Maxis (Search for An Honest Mistake) on will be available on TuneTalk soon and other service providers. Looking into new merchandise as well. New t-shirt designs and caps!

As for gigs, we (myself and Sheryl) are heading to Singapore this weekend playing at 2 very prestigious venues with a Singaporean act ‘For This Cycle’. Then, we will head back for the Hard Rock Café Battle of The Bands. We’re also a part of the Radio Demokratika and My Constitution tour. We will be playing 3 shows alongside other very good bands in March and April.
We are planning to play more regional shows this year and focus on bringing our music out of Malaysia. 2011 looks really good for us. The goal is to conquer South East Asia by the end of 2011!
