Where were you (when Deepset was out?)

Ever since they released their first hand-made demo CD, self-titled 3 songs including Where Were They (When the fun went out), Deepset keep moving forward to be one of the best local post-rock act. From small gigs to bigger venue, from simple setup to opening for big bands like MONO, and also performed at Esplanade Waterfront in Singapore.

Lutfi (Guitar) Hafiza (Guitar) Azman (Drum) Asshad (Bassist) have started this band 7 years ago, changed their named, and released an album titled “The lights we shed shall burn your eyes”. Their music can be described as a mixture of Explosion In The Sky, and a bit of Mono in it. For post rock fans in Malaysia, Deepset is one gem that they will surely keep and support. We’re hoping to see more from Deepset in future.

For our Featured artist this time We have Acad (Asshad) answering few questions.

How has becoming a rockstar affected your life? d:

Hello Fahmy, how are things there? Life’s been good, I love my career and my music.I
never really professed my designation as a rockstar, I’m just another guy who grew
up surrounded by music, and it happens that I play music. Get myself occupied with
profession and interests, which I found out, it’s a good thing for me.

I’m good Acad. Thanks for asking.

You guys were Deepset Joy back then when I first met you guys, why change?

Yes,we started of as Deepset Joy, after awhile we decided to make it short, seeing
that everyone keeps calling us Deepset instead of The Deepset Joy and yet,we
realized that Deepset magnetism attracted us.

What do you think of Barack Obama and his “change”?

Acad performing recently at Efek Rumah Kaca's show in KL

Nothing is ephemeral than politic, people keep talking about them everyday and
everyday has different lies, it comes and goes. I believe Barack Obama is just
another medium that designed to uphold peace and harmony, but yet, the ‘owner’ of
the world wouldn’t really care about his “change”. He could plan, but he couldn’t
send.

What is “The lights we shed shall burn your eyes” means?

Basically, it’s about our life journey, our paths dealing with the life stance.
Inspirations come in and those words state some definitions in various ways. We
know, with strength, you can’t really sway things, you need more than you’d expect.

Tell me your music background, and what made you choose post rock as your music?

I could be wrong about this, neither the rest wouldn’t hold. We aren’t resourceful
enough to break our music into classification. It’s not about choice, it comes
naturally, our interests seem to take place, we play instrument, and we love music.
We don’t really limit ourselves,it just sort of turned that way.

KittyWu have a great bands on the label such as I  Am David Sparkle and Amateur Takes Control, how did you guys signed to this indie label from Singapore?

They approached us during Motion Picture Soundtrack event at Laundry Bar, they
showed interests and we had a talk about the deal.We had an exceptional deal and
basically they are quite permissive.

Signing to KittyWu is the best thing ever happened to Deepset I suppose, what its like to be working with the label?

Well, we hold up a good offer, and I must say they are very lenient towards the
contract. We do music and they stream the lines.

Few great bands in your genre has disappeared over the years like Sgt.Weener’s Arm, KLPHQ, and few good bands also coming up like Sphere, Sforzando!. What do you feel about the future of this scene?

Music has its current adaptation, time to time,it shows some evolvements. We have loads of good band coming up and I’d say it would go livelier than you’d expect.

Deepset at Mono KL Tour

It should be aligned. Music takes the ground and networking is a channel. If we
totally rely on networking, and the music is extremely unpleasant, it won’t push the
button.I believe mouth to mouth basis is a good way to share and spread the music.

What’s the formula of your band?

It’s hard to say, we are not fertile enough to originate our own formula and there’s
so much that we referred to. Definitely, we’re inspired by some tunes and some other
things that relate to our lives.

Anybody still single in Deepset?

Lothfi and Hafiza are married, and yes,Azman and I are still unattached.

What’s the best thing about being in a band?

I clearly figure out, that you would get yourself into direction, this would describe
the best, you can serve people with your music, if they liked it, it’s cathartic.

What’s the worst thing about being in a band?

The pressure that could ruin you under, and you start to get on each others nerves.

Any plan for a new release after “The lights we shed shall burn your eyes”
Yeah, we do have a plan.We plan to come out with a new album this 2010 (matter of
time), we don’t have specific target yet.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to the band on stage?

We are human and not some flawless programmed machines. We had slumped,we get
blacked out on stage, it was an uncontrollable moment.

Deepset is pretty artsy nowadays, anything to it?

None of us from art stream and we do appreciate art, art tells everything, on how
you define them, even you could be carried away by them.

Any last words to your fans and Pizzza viewers out there?

I’d like to thank Fahmy for giving a chance to speak out some words. Thanks to all
for your continual support.Get a bite,people!

sebelum ni aku memang tak paham maksud tajuk album diaorg. ni belum kira tajuk lagu2 diaorg lagi. tapi lepas mamat ni explain aku jadi makin confuse. sebelum sesapa nak melenting dgn statement aku, kalau korang pandai sgt, tolonglah jelaskan.

suma nie subjektif, lg2 dr band post rock sbb dorg mana ada lyric utk lagu2 dorg2. so aku harap ni dpt explain skit pasal pertanyaan ko nie. peace.
